I am not just a MIND!

Seriously, in case anyone was wondering, there is more to me than just my mind. Why is it that some people can only see my mind, and only want to talk with me about seminars or theology? I mean, really! I try my best not to think about those things unless I absolutely have to. I know, I'm entering a career where those things are central, and of course they're important to me, but so are other things! Granted, I am grateful that God has given me this brain, and the opportunity to study His Word and do a PhD. But he has also made me much more than that. I am a scrapbooker, a photographer, a musician, a friend, a dreamer, a listener. I love to travel and to read (fiction, that is). I am a woman who loves children, longs for companionship, and I'm still holding out hope for a husband and family some day. Many of those things are more important to me than simply being a mind! I have been told by one of my male coworkers that many guys are intimidated by me because of my academic record. Apparently, that's all people see in me. No wonder they're intimidated. So one of my goals for this year is to make it clear that I am not just a mind!

(I just needed to vent about that. This has been an ongoing issue for a couple of months now, and it's driving me crazy! See, soon I won't have a mind at all!)

Preach it, sister! I'm so sick of the first (and, quite often only) question out of people's mouths is about my studies, or about theirs, ha. Maybe that's why I spend so much time at the cinema or watching TV, to compensate for all the intellectual-ness of the rest of my life... sounds like a good excuse to me! ;)

I'm puzzled, Genny. Why aren't you going to comment?

Well, I certainly agree with your sentiments, but you seemed a little violent. I didn't want to accidentally set you off. I do have to spend the weekend with you, you know.

Hey there - Happy Birthday. Didn't know if you would get my facebook comment. On your birthday, we should celebrate the things you are (besides a mind) so, here is my attempt... God has gifted you with so many gifts - you are artistic and creative, have an ear for music (both the technical and art of), a gifted music teacher - teaching kids about loving God through music, you are a good and loyal friend, a person who knows she likes nerds and not chocolate, a sweet sister, a lead worshipper, and a smart woman who has the ambition to go after her passion (that's not bad). So, yes you are more than a mind and on your birthday - let's celebrate!
