Wildflower Adventure

On Saturday, Rachel and I headed down to the Ennis Bluebonnet Festival in search of... bluebonnets. And find them, we did! The Ennis Garden Club had maps printed up directing people to the best fields, and so we drove out into the country, along with quite a few other bluebonnet hunters, and had a blast taking pictures of the beautiful Texas state flower. They were everywhere! Huge fields covered in blue...
This was by far the best patch of bluebonnets, at least the best that we could actually wander in, and certainly the most picturesque. The picture doesn't do it justice - it was huge!
This cute little dog just sat there while I took his picture. :)

There were also fields full of Indian Paintbrush, another wildflower that looks similar to the bluebonnet, except for its bright coral color. In the past I've only seen a few indian paintbrush interspersed with the bluebonnets, but this year they were in huge patches all on their own, or with just a few bluebonnets mixed in with them. So pretty.

Most of the patches were mixed with bluebonnets and indian paintbrush, which was really quite neat to see, evenly dispersed blue and coral (not orange!).
We had a lovely picnic in a field full of both flowers.
All in all, it was a fabulous day of enjoying God's creation, made all the better by the fact that it was pouring down rain in Ft. Worth, but we only had a couple of sprinkles in Ennis. Every year I look forward to wildflower season in Texas, but I think this year was the best year since I've lived here.
