German Adventures, Day 9 - Rothenburg

On our next to last day, Dad took us to one of the places he was most excited to share - the most well-preserved German walled city of the Middle Ages, Rothenburg ob der Tauber. It was quite a drive to get there, but well worth it. You can walk around significant portions of the city on the actual walls (we did!), and inside it is really quite quaint. It's like taking a step back in time.
Of course, no German town is complete without at least one major church. Rothenburg's largest church is St. Jakob's, and it is BEAUTIFUL! It quickly became my favorite church of the trip, because while most of the churches are extremely ornate, this one seemed clean and restful to the eye, but the stained glass windows and the altar were still quite intricate.

We climbed the VERY narrow stairs to the top of the tallest tower in the city, the old Rathaus (townhall) for some amazing views of the city and surrounding countryside. It wasn't nearly as tall as the Ulm Muenster, but at times it was more harrowing. The last 15 steps were more like a ladder than anything. Ben did NOT like that part, but enjoyed it once we finally made it outside.
