Cross-Country Road Trips

Journey #1 - Irving, TX to Fayetteville, GA
Saturday before Christmas
Travel companions - my cousin, Colton, and Brodie
Distance - 803 miles
Departure - 7:00 a.m. Central
Arrival - 8:45 p.m. Eastern (nearly 13 hours)
Stops - only 4!
Music - mostly country; I snuck in a Christmas cd when Colton was asleep :)

The trip didn't feel nearly as long as I thought it would. It was great to have Colton along to help drive and to keep me company. I enjoyed getting to spend some time with him.
(Can you tell Brodie is standing on the middle console? Funny dog!)

Journey #2 - Fayetteville, GA to Irving, TX
New Years Eve Eve
Travel companions - just Brodie
Distance - 803 miles
Departure - 7:45 a.m. Eastern
Arrival - 9:00 p.m. Central (over 14 hours)
Stops - 6, including two sight-seeing stops in Tuscaloosa and at the Mississippi River
Music - tons of Christmas music, though I did switch to Les Mis to get me through the last couple of hours.

I was excited to stop in Tuscaloosa and see my beloved University of Alabama. Driving onto the campus was like coming home. I drove over to Bryant-Denny Stadium and Brodie and I walked all the way around it. I was shocked to find that I had never seen the front entrance to the stadium (I always went to the student entrance). It's pretty cool! I took lots of pics, and then we hit the road again. We also stopped at the rest stop at the Mississippi River, which is really nice, with a great view of both bridges and some canons and plaques commemmorating the Battle of Vicksburg. After that, I was just ready to be home! My knees were tired and stiff, and Brodie and I both just wanted to be out of the car. We finally made it at 9:00 p.m., and were both exhausted but thankful to be home.
