Genny's Birthday

Yesterday was Genny's birthday. Every year for my birthday she makes me a delicious carrot cake, so this year I decided I wanted to bake her favorite cake - which, according to Rebecca, is also carrot! Imagine that! Rebecca and Abigail were both planning to come over Tuesday night and help me bake, but since Rebecca had too much homework, Abigail and I were on our own. We worked hard, and baked a yummy, though admittedly not that pretty, carrot cake.

We gave Genny the cake when I took Abigail home that night. When we walked in the door we said "Happy Birthday!" Then Abigail, in all seriousness, said "we did what we could." It was so funny - we cracked up. I actually think it was rather brave of me to present one of my first attempts at real baking to the cake master. But she was kind and didn't comment on its rather unattractive appearance. Hey, with baking, it's the taste that counts, right?

Then yesterday, we carried on the tradition of lunch together on our birthdays by eating a delicious meal at Red Hot & Blue, another of our favorites. A fun time of celebration was had by all!

God Is on a Roll

Last night made two nights in a row that God simply lit up the sky with colors of fire. I stepped out the back door to go put my laundry in the dryer, saw the sky, and promptly went back in the house for my camera. That sky was absolutely majestic - I couldn't resist.

The Heavens Declare the Glory of God

These days I've really been enjoying taking pictures of the sky. Texas has some amazing sunsets, and I usually have a really good view of them from my front porch (even though there's a light pole and other objects that impede a perfect view). I love all the vibrant colors that God can create, and that He paints across the sky for our enjoyment. Not only does the sky declare God's glory with their beauty, but I can't help but sing His praises when I see it shining in all its brilliance. It's beautiful, and I thank God for making such a gorgeous sky on a day when I really needed reminding that He's there and that He delights over me and loves me unconditionally.

Here's some pics of today's sunset (yes, I took the pics as I drove down the interstate!) and one of the sky as I walked in to the seminary this morning.
Here are some more sky and sunset pics from the last few months. And unlike the ones I posted on facebook, these have NOT been edited. The colors are all God! Isn't He amazing?!

We LOVE Sonic Diet Coke with Lime

Ahh... is there anything better than good friends, laughter, and Sonic Diet Coke with Lime? Genny and I don't think so. We have Sonic Diet Coke with Lime at almost everything we do together - scrapbooking, children's choir, and any other time we have an excuse to get it. Regular Diet Coke just doesn't taste nearly as good, and even the canned version of Diet Coke with Lime can't compare with Sonic's.

Yesterday was an absolutely beautiful day, so before we really got busy scrapping, Genny, Abigial, Jessica, Katherine and I headed down to Sonic for Happy Hour and some photography time. Genny and I have been wanting to take some Diet Coke with Lime pics ever since Sonic started selling it (like 3 years ago!). Well, we finally did it! I think they're fun, and we had a good time acting silly and taking photos in the warm winter sunshine.

5th Annual SCRAP the Super Bowl Party

Last night, for the fifth year in a row, Genny and I scrapped the Super Bowl. In other words, we were in a room with no tv and we scrapbooked rather than watch the game. Rebecca would occasionally give us score updates, but other than that, we didn't know what was going on in the game - and we didn't care! We had a blast, helping each other pick out paper for our pages, scrapping our memories, chatting, and laughing a lot. Abigail joined us some and experimented with Genny's new Cricut - so cool! I personally think this is the absolute BEST way to spend Super Bowl Sunday, and I'm so glad I have a friend who will carry on the tradition with me.
Abigail and me posing with the fun sign she made for my office (it now hangs with a brown ribbon). I think it's funny that it says "Abigail" behind my head and "Barb" in front of her.
