A Rainy Night at the Texas State Fair
I don't know why it always rains on me at amusement-type events (Sea World last year, Disney for a week in May, the Fair this year). Most of our time at the fair it was only a mild drizzle, but there was a moment when the bottom fell out and it poured! But Amy, Rachel, and I decided to brave it anyway, since this was the only time we could all work it out to go. We got there late Saturday afternoon, and had a good ol' time enjoying the cool fall weather, the smells and tastes of fried fair food, a ride on the ferris wheel, and especially the petting zoo.
Now THAT's what I call a Big Green Tractor!
waiting in line to ride the Texas Star ferris wheel - Amy isn't sure what she's gotten herself into!
You can't go to the State Fair of Texas without eating fried food - it's one of the featured attractions! This year's highlight was Fried Butter - it really was a biscuit with butter inside it, fried, and sprinkled with powdered sugar. It actually was quite good - the three of us split an order.Probably our favorite attraction was the Petting Zoo. They had a ton of different animals (mostly babies) in there, including zebras, camels, buffalo, highland cows, 4-horned sheep, a kangaroo, cows, goats, and a giraffe. We bought a little bit of feed to share with them, and it was so fun getting to pet the different animals and feed them out of our hands.
My second time to pet a Scottish highland cow - both times in Texas!
This baby goat was sucking on my finger - too cute!
Love his expression!
Getting to pet the baby giraffe was the highlight for me - so cool! Of course, he had a thing for windbreakers. He tried to eat mine! It was really funny, and slimy! When I finally moved away, he decided to reach out and lick a guy's poncho - the man said "Hey, wait! We don't know each other that well!" Too funny! I posted a video at the bottom of the giraffe trying to eat my jacket.
