A Rainy 4th of July Weekend
In the weeks leading up to the 4th of July, everybody was eager for the celebration. Mom and Dad open their home and pool to all the extended family, and we usually have lots of aunts, uncles, and cousins there for several days. We always go to the parade in the morning, swim in the afternoon, and then go to the fireworks at night.
Unfortunately, this year the weather did not cooperate. It started raining on Wednesday morning (the 3rd) and didn't quit for very long all weekend. It wasn't just a little rain, either... it rained HARD, and it was in the 70s... in Georgia... in July! The parade was cancelled, the fireworks were postponed until LABOR DAY, and it was so cool that even when it wasn't raining, we didn't really want to swim.
Yeah, we weren't happy!
But we were determined to have fun anyway. After all, we had thirteen people and three dogs in the house. It was bound to be entertaining! On the 4th of July, instead of getting up early and sweltering at the parade, we slept in and then chilled around the house.
For the rest of the weekend, we did what all good families do when the rain spoils their plans.
We ate...
We played with our electronics...
We hunted for critters...
We hung out with cousins...
We played with bubbles...
We dressed up the dogs...
We had water gun battles...
We swam in the rain...
We spent a LOT of time on Mom and Dad's deck...
We visited with friends...
...and we took advantage of every hint of sunshine to enjoy the pool.
It wasn't exactly the kind of 4th of July weekend any of us were expecting, but we had a great time together. And as soon as all the company left, my family packed up and went in search of sunshine - all the way to Savannah. That post coming soon...
