My first professional presentation

I just received notice that my research paper was accepted for presentation at the March 2008 regional meeting of the Society for Biblical Literature (on March 15 - oh no, "beware the ides of March"!). This will be my first professional presentation outside of the University of Aberdeen context. While I'm excited that my paper was accepted and I'm making strides in my professional development, right now just the thought of presenting this paper makes me extremely anxious. I think that's probably compounded by the fact that this is an incredibly stressful week for me. One of my seminars met today for the first time this semester, and I have a paper due for it a week from today. Add to that the fact that our children's choir musical is this Saturday and Sunday and we have rehearsals all week, and I don't have time to even think about working on another paper! Maybe in a week or so it will sink in that I have to finalize that paper, but for now, I'm trying to make it one day at a time. I look forward to next week when I can finally crash!

Wow... congratulations! That is awesome! I'm nervous just thinking about it... but I know you'll do great! Plus, there's still loads of time to think about it, after you get through this week. Yay, Barb!

Wow - Impressive - and glad I'm not you - I have no desire to do anything in front of a bunch of people. It definitely sounds like a worry I'd put off for another day. And I won't even ask when you're planning to write a paper. Like I said - glad I'm not you - although I'm not too thrilled with being me these days either. I am looking forward to getting there and doing something I love for a change even if it will be crazy. I'll pray you accomplish all you need to this week.

Congrats! That's a big honor and I know you will do a great job. I'm with you on the "taking it one day at a time." It will be a crazy week, but an exciting one as well. You've done a wonderful job with the music and the kids.
