A Week in Wet Disney World, Day 5 - Blizzard Beach, Putt-Putt, and Fireworks

Thursday morning, we decided to head for the other Disney water park, Blizzard Beach. We did this one back in 1996 and all enjoyed it, so we were looking forward to it. Ben decided he would rather sleep (and he did sleep, until after 1:30!), so he stayed with Papa at the resort while Mom, Dad and I raced the slopes at Blizzard Beach. So fun! The atmosphere at this park is one of the best things about it - the story goes that a freak snow storm blanketed Florida and a ski resort sprang up with slalom courses, toboggan slides and iceberg walkways. Then, just as quickly, the weather shifted back to hot and the whole resort started to melt, creating Blizzard Beach. There's a chair lift that takes you to the top three slides, and the Summit Plummet (or "wedgie-maker" as I call it) looks like it's going to shoot you over the ski jump - it actually sends you in a nearly-vertical 12-story drop. Fun, but painful! Anyway, we spent the day enjoying the various slides, wave pool, and lazy river. The sun came out for a while, and guess what... NO RAIN!!! We actually got sunburnt because we didn't want a repeat of Murphy's Law from the day before. It was a great day, and we stayed until nearly 4:00.

(Obviously those last 2 pictures are not mine, but are borrowed from the Disney website, because I didn't have any pics of the chairlift.)

When we got back to the resort, we convinced Ben and Papa to take in a game of putt-putt, where Papa proceeded to put us all to shame with his golfing skills.
After getting cleaned up, Dad treated us all to a nice steak dinner at Longhorn. YUM! The best steak I've had in a long time. Before leaving the resort, we decided to take a group pic, since we were all looking decent and not wet. So we set up the tripod and took a few shots.
When they checked into the resort, Mom and Dad were told that we would see fireworks every night from the various Disney parks. Well, because of the rain, we hadn't seen fireworks all week. But after dinner that night, we got to watch the fireworks at Epcot from our 3rd floor balcony. Very cool, but nothing like the ones we saw the next night.

Looks like a great vacation, in spite of the weather. And, you still managed to take some great pictures, which will be fun to scrapbook. Yea!
