Charleston Vacation, Day 1

In July, my family took a quick vacation to Charleston and the Isle of Palms. Mom, Dad, and Ben go to Charleston almost every year for the Special Olympics sailing regatta, and they always have such a great time, but I had never been. So when Mom said we would go to the beach this summer, I asked if it could be Charleston. We set out on Sunday morning after dropping the dogs off at the boarders, and arrived in Charleston around 2:30. I knew we were close when we drove across the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge.
We checked into our AirBNB, a very nice home, and quickly changed for the beach. My family makes the most of our vacations - we go, go, go! So we weren't going to waste this first afternoon.
We met up with the Nissen family at the beach at Isle of Palms, and quickly set out walking the beach. The guys and Savannah tossed the football as they walked, and Mom, Karen, and I set out looking for shells. By the end of our trip, we had filled Mom's yellow bucket with shells at least 6 times! The weather that afternoon didn't look all that promising for a beach trip, but despite the ominous clouds it never did rain and we were able to enjoy our first evening.
We went to the Banana Cabana for dinner and enjoyed our meal on the deck outside. Then we said goodbye to the Nissens before walking back down the boardwalk to the beach to watch as the sky turned glorious colors and the clouds reflected in the water.
