Charleston Vacation, Day 2

On our first full day of vacation, we headed out fairly early to the beach. We wanted to enjoy the sun and surf as long as possible. We set up our Alabama tent (Roll Tide!), searched for shells, waded in the surf, read (but not much!), and had a blast. The sky was an incredible blue, and the sun was gloriously warm on our skin.
When we finally tired of the sun and sand, we headed home to clean up and head downtown for the evening. Our first stop was the Mt. Pleasant Pier for gorgeous views of the bridge (I love bridges!). We actually saw a manatee feeding on the sea lettuce, and a lady on the pier caught a puffer fish while I watched.
When we got to downtown Charleston, we drove around the battery and the old streets, checking out the churches and other historic buildings. Mom and I wandered around the churchyard and cemetery of the Circular Church (it's round!). We saw various sites that we would go back and explore more fully later in the trip. Then we parked down near the old Market and went for dinner at Hyman's Seafood. After a very filling dinner, we walked off some of the calories by exploring the stores around the Market and goofing off before heading home to crash after a long but fun day.
